The history of fortifications in Będzin dates back to the ninth century. Then a stronghold was erected on Góra Zamkowa, probably belonging to the Vistulan tribe. The defensive stronghold was built by Casimir the Great in the so-called Eagles' Nests. The present appearance is due to the reconstruction that took place in the nineteenth century. It consists of the upper castle and the extensive outer ward with the remains of the perimeter walls and the now non-existent entrance gate (whose remains were discovered by archaeologists in the years 1954-58) preceded by a drawbridge. The upper castle has a residential building - a rebuilt four-sided defensive tower and a round tower over 20 meters high - stolp. At its top there is a viewpoint with a telescope. It offers a wide view of the entire area. The castle is surrounded by a moat and a high double perimeter wall.
