The reserve is located in the peak parts of Srebrna Góra (347 m a.s.l.), which is one of the higher hills in the western part of the Tarnogórski Hump, on the border of Bytom and Tarnowskie Góry. As early as 1908, efforts were made to create a reserve on Srebrna Góra within a forest complex called the Segiecki Forest. Finally, the reserve was established by order of the Minister of Forestry of April 27, 1953. The reserve covers an area of 24.29 ha. The reserve is directly adjacent to the "Blachówka" documentation stand, which is a closed dolomite quarry. The old dolomite excavation, built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, was protected in 1995 due to its unique scientific, didactic, historical and landscape values. The steep walls of the excavation are a habitat for birds (also predators) and rare xerothermic plants. The so-called "Segiet" reserve and the "Blachówka" excavation are connected with The Tarnogórskie-Bytomskie underground, created as a result of mining exploitation lasting from the 12th to the 20th century. The resulting tunnels and shafts, pavements, chambers and pits, whose length is over 300 km, have become the largest wintering place for bats in Upper Silesia. The occurrence of bat species in the underground listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive has become the reason for the protection of this area as a refuge Natura 2000 Underground Tarnogórsko-Bytomskie with an area of 3490.799 ha. Naturalists have marked as many as 10 species of bats in this area, including big night, brown bat (the largest wintering ground of this bat in Europe). In the southern part of the closed excavation Blachówka, in the exploitation wall there are inlets, through which bats move from the underground to the outside, they also act as ventilation holes for the underground corridor system. In the "Segie" area you can find numerous traces of old silver and lead mining, such as: funnels, sinkholes.
