A state cultural institution conducting its artistic activity since September 1999. In 1947, the first Opole professional orchestra was created - the Small Symphony Orchestra, which was then transformed into the Provincial Symphony Orchestra. in 1969 the orchestra was named after Józef Elsner, and in 1972 the philharmonic institution was officially created. The main concert hall of the philharmonic building has 495 seats, and the chamber hall 120. The building also has a large foyer with an area of 168 m. The philharmonic orchestra is famous for, among others, participation in many national and international festivals, e.g. Wratislavia Cantans. He also participates in the preparation of Opole Oratorio Days, Forum of Witold Lutosławski, Baroque Days and the Festival of Silesian Composers. A well-known event associated with the institution of the Opole Philharmonic are promenade concerts organized on summer Sundays at the st. Barlickiego, be on Wolności Square.
