Address: ul. Zamkowa 10 , 44-180 Toszek
The castle is located on a hill near the city center. The history of defensive buildings in Toszek probably dates back to the 10th-11th century, when a wooden stronghold stood on the site of the present castle, once a castellany, belonging to the Silesian princes during the regional breakup, replaced by a brick castle at the beginning of the 15th century. In 1429, the Hussites destroyed it, and rebuilt it and made it its permanent seat Przemysław Toszecki, a prince from the Oświęcim line. After his death in 1484, the castle was the property of the Opole princes until the death of Jan II the Good in 1532, and then as a fief of Czech kings it passed into the hands of the Habsburgs. Then it was redeemed by the Redern family in 1592 and rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The Rederns not only repaired the damage caused by the fire of 1570, but also added living quarters in the gate part. The niece of Jerzy II Rederna married Count Kasper Colonna, who later as the owner of the Toszek castle owed another reconstruction. In the 18th century, the residence changed its owner several times, first it was Baron Johann Dietrich von Peterswald, then Franciszek Karol Kotuliński, Pasadowski, and finally the family of the poet Joseph von Eichendorff. In 1797, the Eichendorfs sold the estate to Count Franciszek Adam Gaschin. After the fire of 1811, no reconstruction of the residence was planned; in 1840, Abraham Guradze bought the ruin. His family owned the castle until World War II. In the years 1957–1963 the castle was partially rebuilt. The entire original castle foundation is today underground. Archaeological work has shown that the first stone building belongs to the central part of the entrance gate. Also a four-storey tower at the base, four-sided, above the octagonal, stands in its original place, hiding deep dungeons underneath. Two side towers flanking the entrance were built during Colonna's time. The building from the north side of the defensive wall was a stable in the 17th century, as evidenced by preserved decorative horse mangers in the form of recesses; in the 18th century it was converted into a conservatory. Colonny ordered the reconstruction of the castle to Milan architect Jan Seregno, who was probably the author of the design of two stone decorative portals: the smaller one above the entrance to the stable (with the Colonnas coat of arms) and the main one leading to the residence. Currently, the castle is the seat of the "Zamek w Toszek" Culture Center, where numerous educational classes for children and youth are conducted.
