Address: Park Hutniczy 7 , 41-800 Zabrze
The institution was founded in the spring of 1950 as the Mining Philharmonic of the Miners' Trade Union. At the time, its goal was to popularize music in a mainly workers' community. From the beginning, it also conducted activities aimed at younger audiences, children and youth. The first years of the orchestra's activity are primarily presentations of the lighter genre of music - opera, operetta, entertainment and popular songs from the "classics". Over time, the profile of the symphony orchestra began to change towards typical philharmonic programs, which today operates in a highly professional level. The programs of the concerts are very sophisticated, and the best foreign artists perform on stage. The enormous work of musicians and its effects were noticed by the authorities in the mid-1980s. The title "Mining Philharmonic" disappeared - in return the band received the name of the State Philharmonic, which was an expression of recognition of its achievements. The Zabrze Philharmonic Orchestra participates in well-known festivals such as the Krystyna Jamruz Festival in Busko-Zdrój, the International Festival of Sacred Music "Gaude Mater" in Częstochowa, the Festival of Jan Kiepura in Krynica, Silesian Tribune of Composers in Katowice, Festival of Stars in Międzyzdroje and many others. The band also performs at many foreign concerts, most often in Slovakia, Russia and Jaopnia.
