defensive tower of the former castle of the Cieszyn princes on the Castle Hill in Cieszyn, one of the four existing there and the only one preserved to this day. It is located on the top of the hill, in its northwestern part. Gothic, brick, built in the first half of the fourteenth century of broken stone and stone punches in the corners and frames of window openings, in the upper parts of brick in the Polish layout. Erected on a square plan, with a basement with extensive, partly covered basements, from which it was supposed to lead an underground exit outside the castle walls. Five-storey, 24 m high. The walls in the lower parts are up to 2 m thick, narrowing upwards with faults from the inside. Rectangular windows, pointed or semi-circularly closed. In the upper part in the 15th century a brick porch was built, supported by solid stone corbels, with machiculas and battlements. As the figure from 1735 shows, the tower was originally covered with a tent roof with separate spiers above the corner bay windows. Under the corner bay windows, four stone, Gothic coat of arms shields from the late fourteenth century with Piast eagles excavated with a shallow relief, according to tradition from a workshop associated with Prague master Piotr Parler. Brick porch with a visible Piast eagle. The tower has been renovated several times, among others in the second half of the 19th century, when the tent roof was replaced by a sunken roof and a clock was installed on the tower. In the twentieth century, the tower was restored in 1976-89, adding its observation deck at the top, renovating battlements and renewing eagle shields. Throughout history, the tower has been recognized as a symbol of Cieszyn, a testimony of its Piast past and Polish guard over Olza. The tower is open to the public (for a fee). It extends from it a wide view of Cieszyn and Český Těšín on both sides of the Olza. With good visibility, you can admire the interesting panorama of the Silesian Beskids and the Silesian-Moravian Beskids.
